DescriptionNikon WX 7X50 IF description

The Nikon WX 7x50 IF is a flagship optical instrument engineered to provide an exceptionally wide field of view without sacrificing sharpness, contrast or fine detail. Its stable 7x magnification and large 50 mm objectives collect plenty of light, making it particularly suitable for stargazing, landscapes and low-light observation. Its defining feature is the exceptionally wide 10.7° real angular field of view. At 1,000 metres, the binocular covers an area 188 metres wide, while the 66.6° apparent field of view creates an expansive and highly immersive viewing experience. The optical system uses premium Roof-type Abbe-Koenig prisms. Its advanced design reduces astigmatism, coma, chromatic aberration and other image distortions, maintaining excellent sharpness from the centre to the edge of the super-wide field. High-quality multilayer coatings are applied to the optical surfaces. Field-flattener lenses help minimise field curvature, while ED glass elements control chromatic aberration. The long 17.7 mm eye relief allows many eyeglass wearers to enjoy the full wide field comfortably. Each eyepiece is focused individually, making the binocular particularly suitable for astronomy and long-range viewing where the subject distance remains relatively constant. The dioptre adjustment range extends from –6 to +4 m⁻¹. The sealed, nitrogen-filled construction is waterproof and helps prevent internal fogging. Due to its substantial weight of 2,420 g, the binocular is best used on a tripod for prolonged observation. An optional Nikon TRA-5 tripod adapter is compatible with this model.

Comparison with alternatives

Compared with the Nikon 7x50IF SP WP, the Nikon WX 7x50 IF provides a significantly wider field of view: 188 m instead of 128 m at 1,000 m. The WX also uses a more sophisticated optical system designed to preserve sharpness across the entire super-wide image. However, it is much heavier and better suited to tripod use.

Compared with the Nikon WX 10x50 IF, the 7x50 version offers lower magnification but a larger 7.1 mm exit pupil and a wider 188 m field of view. This provides a brighter, steadier image and makes it especially suitable for scanning large areas of the night sky. The 10x50 model provides stronger magnification for distant details.

Compared with conventional 7x50 binoculars, the WX is considerably larger, heavier and more complex, but delivers an exceptionally wide and highly corrected image for demanding users.

FAQ

Is the Nikon WX 7x50 IF suitable for astronomy?

Yes. It is specifically designed for observing wide areas of the night sky. The 50 mm objectives, 10.7° field and advanced optical system are ideal for constellations, the Milky Way and large celestial regions.

Can it be used without a tripod?

Brief handheld observation is possible, but due to its 2,420 g weight, a tripod is recommended for prolonged use.

Can it be mounted on a tripod?

Yes. It can be mounted using an optional Nikon TRA-5 tripod adapter.

Can it be used while wearing glasses?

Yes. The 17.7 mm eye relief allows many eyeglass wearers to view the full wide field comfortably.

How is it focused?

Each eyepiece is focused separately. Individual focusing is particularly suitable for astronomy and distant subjects.

Is the Nikon WX 7x50 IF waterproof?
