DescriptionFUJIFILM GFX100RF black WWI Medium Format description

The first GFX series camera with a built-in lens and a 102 megapixel large format sensor. The lightest model in the GFX series, bringing users a high-resolution shooting experience. Availability: from April 2025.

It is the latest addition to the GFX lineup, featuring a large-format image sensor that is approximately 1.7 times larger than a 35mm full-frame sensor. The GFX100RF is the first digital camera with a built-in lens in the GFX series, and features a 102MP high-speed "GFX 102MP CMOS II" image sensor and a high-speed "X-Processor 5" image processing engine.

The GFX100RF is the first camera to feature an "aspect ratio selector". This allows users to switch between 9 different aspect ratios, derived from photographic film and analogue cameras Fujifilm has produced in the past, with a simple instruction. The analog feel of switching and selecting aspect ratio using the dial according to the subject and photographic intent makes the shooting process more enjoyable.

The design of the lens and body has been thoroughly refined, and although it is a fixed lens model, it weighs approximately only 735g, making it the lightest model in the GFX series. The GFX100RF will bring even more users a high-resolution shooting experience in a whole new dimension. The top panel of the GFX100RF was created using an aluminum cutting process, the very first time Fujifilm has used this process. The same process was used for the lens ring, dials, bottom panel and other small parts. The result is a design that enhances the feeling of metallic texture when users hold the camera in their hands and gives a sense of unity with the design, making it a camera that their owners will be proud to own.

In addition, the versatile angle of view of the newly developed 35mm F4 lens (equivalent to 28mm in 35mm format), combined with features such as subject detection, high-speed and high-precision autofocus enabled by the latest AI technology, give the camera high performance in a wide range of situations, from hobby photography to professional photography.

The GFX100RF is an exceptional camera that combines Fujifilm's history of contributing to the development of photographic culture over many years by providing a wide range of products, services, cutting-edge technology and design.

1. What are the main advantages and features that distinguish medium format cameras?

Medium format cameras stand out due to their larger sensor size compared to DSLR and mirrorless cameras, offering a greater dynamic range and superior image quality, especially in low-light conditions. They capture more detail and produce less noise at higher ISO sensitivity. Additionally, medium format camera lenses are larger, allowing for enhanced control over bokeh effects and creating a distinctive aesthetic. These cameras are commonly used for portraits, landscapes, and professional commercial photography, where quality, detail, and color fidelity are crucial. However, medium format cameras are more expensive, larger, and heavier than other camera formats, making them a choice for photographers seeking the highest quality results.

2. How to choose the right lens for a medium format camera?

Selecting the right lens for a medium format camera is a crucial step in achieving top-quality images, depending on your photography style and needs. Medium format lenses come in various types, including prime, zoom, and wide-angle lenses. Prime lenses with fixed focal lengths are ideal for portraits, as they often deliver high-quality images and excellent bokeh effects, emphasizing the subject against the background. Zoom lenses are suitable for capturing distant subjects, while wide-angle lenses are perfect for landscapes or spacious scenes. Most professional photographers opt for high-quality prime lenses for portraits and fast zoom lenses with low aperture numbers. The latter helps create beautiful background blur (bokeh) and isolate the main subject from the background. Before choosing a lens, assess your needs and what you aim to achieve in specific photography situations to ensure the best results.
